Aaron and I have to say that the beer in Asia has been less than thrilling. Tiger (from Singapore, but served all over), Singha, Asahi (Japan), Tsingtao, Dali, LIQ (China), Anchor (Cambodia), Chang (Thailand)…it doesn’t matter. They are all pretty bad. Replacing one’s ions with an Asian soft drink is way more exciting than drinking these beers.
That said, the rumors that abound about the big bottles of Chang found in Thailand are pretty funny. We have been told that it is made with formaldehyde, and that depending on how much sugar the brewer decides to throw into the batch, and how long the beer sits on the shelf fermenting in the bottle, the alcohol content can vary widely, between about 4-9%, with the average being, oh, approximately 6.4%.
